π Tender Overview
Joint investment of US$ 795 million will strengthen energy security and boost the economy of the south of the country. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the Vice Ministry of Electricity, reported that four solar power generation plants are being built in the Arequipa region, which will contribute 905 megawatts (MW) of clean energy to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).
These projects, which will enter into commercial operation between 2026 and 2028, represent a joint investment of US$795 million and aim to strengthen the security of the national energy system, promote industrial and economic activities in the south of the country and improve the quality of electrical service for the population.
The new solar plants--among which are the largest of their type in Peru--are:
o Sunny Solar Central, with a capacity of 325 MW.
o Illa Solar Power Plant, with 396 MW.
o San Jose Solar Power Plant, with 156 MW.
o Sol de Verano I Solar Photovoltaic Plant, with an installed power of 45.3 MW.
Of this portfolio of projects, on October 22, commercial operation of the first stage of the Sunny solar plant with a capacity of 204 MW began. In 2026, the second stage is scheduled to be completed to reach 325 MW of installed capacity.
With these works underway, Arequipa reaffirms its leadership in renewable energies, demonstrating its enormous potential due to its high solar radiation and its contribution to the sustainable development of the country.
The MINEM highlighted that this investment will generate local employment, boost regional economies and contribute to closing energy access gaps, in line with the Governments policy of promoting a fair and sustainable energy transition for all Peruvians.
