π Tender Overview
Four Brazilian municipalities are serving as a reference for the incorporation of climate criteria in integrated urban development projects. The initiative is part of Action 00SY, from the Better Cities program, developed by the Ministry of Cities in partnership with the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ). The objective is to review and improve Integrated Urban Development (UID) projects, ensuring that they include adaptation measures to climate change.
The cities of Vitoria de Santo Antao (PE), Garuva (SC), Macapa (AP) and Bujaru (PA) were selected to receive technical assistance and participate in a collaborative process of qualifying their public spaces, with support from the Myr Group technical consultancy, hired by GIZ. The work will result in notebooks of solutions with proposals and guidelines that can guide other municipalities in the development of projects with a climate focus.
Between the end of September and mid-October, teams from the National Secretariat for Urban and Metropolitan Development and GIZ carried out technical visits to the intervention areas. Activities included location recognition and collective mapping workshops with municipal technicians. In these workshops, participants assessed risks, vulnerabilities and climate impacts, using maps, photographic records and georeferencing tools.
Each visit provided an immersion in local realities. In Vitoria de Santo Antao, the focus was on the rehabilitation of urban areas; in Garuva, the implementation of a linear park; in Macapa, the urbanization of natural channels; and, in Bujaru, the creation of an urban park. The proposals developed at these meetings will serve as the basis for basic architecture and urban planning projects, incorporating solutions that increase the resilience of cities in the face of the effects of climate change.
