πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), MΓ‘rio Oliveira, proposed, on Monday, in Luanda, the sharing of knowledge and proposals for solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of the African continent.

MΓ‘rio Oliveira made the proposal at the opening of the 10th African Engineering Week, which is taking place simultaneously with the 13th African Engineering Conference, which runs until Friday.

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication hopes that the event will show society that engineering sciences are a driving force for the development and prosperity of the continent, an opportunity to promote engineering education, as well as inspire young talents.

The minister acknowledged that the continent still faces numerous unique and complex challenges, with emphasis on promoting public health, bringing energy to communities, infrastructure that facilitates trade and mobility, efficient sanitation systems, access to drinking water, among others.

Therefore, MΓ‘rio Oliveira understands that Engineering has the mission of offering practical and innovative solutions to the problems that societies face, always aiming to guarantee the well-being of the population and improve the quality of life and overcome the development deficit that still characterizes the continent.

This, he added, is a challenge that must be analyzed in a holistic and systematic way, inspiring the next generations of Engineering professionals, projecting the future in the areas of Sustainability and Infrastructure, Education and Training.

The minister also hopes that the engineers gathered in Luanda will present contributions that can accelerate the effective implementation of digital transformation on the continent, towards the creation of the African Free Trade Area and with it reap all the benefits for all countries.

MΓ‘rio Oliveira highlighted the continent's advances in the Agriculture and Livestock sectors, and in the field of sciences such as Mathematics, Metallurgy, Astronomy, Architecture, Botany, Literature and other branches of knowledge.

Government's Bet
During the event, which is taking place for the first time in the capital of a Portuguese-speaking African country (PALOP), the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication reaffirmed the Angolan Government's commitment to paving the way for sustainable development, through public policies that support its growth.

MΓ‘rio Oliveira assured that the Government is committed to the nation and its citizens, on the one hand, and to the continent, on the other, defending the development of a set of structuring programs, highlighting the important role that engineering has in the success of these projects.

The minister highlighted projects carried out by Angola in the Energy sector, with the construction of hydroelectric dams and solar parks, in Telecommunications and Information Technologies, with national and international fiber optic projects, and the National Space Program, with ANGOSAT-2. For the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, engineering, in its various disciplines, has been a fundamental pillar for the progress of humanity, as it is present in practically all sectors of life.

This presence, he said, is unquestionable in the construction of essential infrastructures, such as roads, bridges and in technological innovation, which drives the digital economy, among countless other areas.

During the 10th African Engineering Week and the 13th African Engineering Conference, which takes place under the theme "Innovative Infrastructure Solutions for a Sustainable Africa and Rapid Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area", organized by the Order of Engineers of Angola (OAS), experts, academics, students and professionals from the PALOP will be gathered to discuss the challenges of Engineering in Africa and the opportunities in the sector.
