Angola, in partnership with UNESCO, is preparing to create the first biosphere reserve in the Quiรงama National Park this year.
The information was provided by the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, this Thursday, January 30, in Luanda, during the International Conference on Biodiversity and Conservation Areas (CIBAC), opened by the President of the Republic, Joรฃo Lourenรงo.
Ana Paula de Carvalho said that Angola is developing a project called "The Climate Action Suitcase", which includes training for trainers and the distribution of an environmental education kit for primary school teachers, so that they can disseminate content on climate change in the subjects of mathematics, environmental studies and the Portuguese language.
"This is a kit that contains a theoretical manual on climate change, a practical manual of classroom activities, several educational games, among other materials that will be used by teachers in developing the activities", he explained.
The biosphere reserve is a conservation instrument that favors the discovery of solutions to problems such as deforestation of tropical forests, desertification, atmospheric pollution, the greenhouse effect, among others.
The minister also reported that the training of inspectors for the Luando Integral Reserve (located in Malanje), who will protect Palanca Negra, was successfully completed, as well as the Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan being validated.
"We are doing everything we can to ensure that the country is aligned with the best international practices, consolidating environmental management and conservation as pillars of sustainable development," he said.
Angola, according to the minister, is a country privileged by its biodiversity and has beautiful, vast and diverse ecosystems, from savannas, mountains, forests, coastal areas, to the sea.
In Africa, he added, Angola is the country with the largest number of biomes and the second with the largest number of eco-regions, after South Africa.
Ana Paula de Carvalho stated that the biodiversity that Angola presents is due to the combination of several factors, such as the vast size of the country, geographical position, variation in altitude and types of biomes.
The International Conference on Biodiversity and Conservation Areas (CIBAC), which runs until tomorrow under the motto "Preserving today to ensure the balance of life tomorrow", is an initiative of the Ministry of Environment. It brings together experts, policy makers, business leaders and environmentalists from Angola, Brazil, Botswana, Namibia and Australia, to discuss and promote innovative solutions for the protection of biodiversity and conservation of natural areas.
The event is part of the celebrations of January 31, National Environment Day, established in 1976 by former President Antรณnio Agostinho Neto, during the first Nature Conservation Week, held in Luanda.
