π Tender Overview
The second phase of the gradual transition of TAAG's commercial passenger flights, from AntΓ³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), starts this Tuesday, with the Saurimo, Dundo, Luena routes, both in the east, and Soyo, in the north.
Seven weekly flights are expected for the city of Saurimo, capital of the province of Lunda-Sul, four for Dundo (Lunda-Norte), five for Soyo (Zaire) and three flights per week for Luena, capital of Moxico.
The process of gradually transferring commercial passenger operations from 4 de Fevereiro International Airport to the new airport began on 10 November this year, with the Luanda/Cabinda route, with the other connections expected to be progressively completed in the first quarter of 2025.
On that occasion, the first 92 passengers were transported from the country's capital to the northernmost province and 99 others in the opposite direction, on flights of a Boeing 737-700 aircraft, registration D2 TBJ, followed by three more flights on the same day.
Opened on November 10, 2023, the new airport has the capacity to handle more than 15 million passengers per year (five domestic and 10 international) and transport 130 thousand tons of goods per year.
The infrastructure includes two double runways and is prepared to receive different types of aircraft, with emphasis on the Airbus A380, considered the largest commercial aircraft currently in use.
It has 31 access routes to the aircraft, of which 11 are for domestic services and 19 for international services, in addition to conveyor belts for luggage storage. The check-in area has six islands with 94 counters, 32 for domestic services and 62 for international services.
Located in the urban district of Bom Jesus, municipality of Icolo e Bengo, 40 kilometers from the city center of Luanda, the airport also has, among its various service areas, VIP lounges, restaurants, shops, a clinic, first aid center, elevators, as well as parking for more than one thousand and five hundred vehicles.
To ensure the flow of passengers, the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), in the international zone, has 36 counters, 10 for electronic passports, as well as 14 counters to serve the domestic passenger segment.
