The Spanish funds will allow the WFP to distribute food rations for the Saharawi refugees each month which include cereals legumes vegetable oil and sugar. The refugee families are spread across five camps near the Algerian city of Tindouf and rely primarily on WFP assistance to meet their food needs. Despite the enormous challenges of this operation and even in the worst moments of the COVID-19 pandemic the WFP has not stopped providing food aid to Saharawi families.WFP has been supporting Western Saharan refugees in Algeria since 1986. WFP operations in Algeria are carried out and monitored in collaboration with national and international organizations to ensure that food assistance reaches the people for whom it is intended.
